A vast majority of San Diego County residents would back a law to keep motorists from using hand-held cell phones while driving. That's according to the latest KPBS/Competitive Edge Research Poll. KPBS reporter Beth Ford Roth has more.
The poll finds most San Diego County conservatives, liberals, and moderates agree on at least one thing: it's not cool to drive while talking. Sevent nine percent of those polled would support a state law banning the use of cell phones while driving, except for hands-free devices.
The poll also finds cell phones are much more common among people younger than 34, than older, according to Competitive Edge President John Neinstedt.
Neinstedt: "Older folks don't tend to be as comfortable with this technology as younger folks do, and it is now becoming the must-have item to go out and live in this new society we've created."
Eighty three percent of those younger than 34 own cell phones, compared to 77 percent of all San Diego County residents polled. Beth Ford Roth, KPBS news.
