The finger of blame continues to circle round and round at San Diego city hall. Mayor Jerry Sanders will consider his options this week, following news last week that two staff at the pension board are targets of the federal investigations into the pension deficit. KPBS reporter Alison St John has more.

According to City Attorney Mike Aguirre, the city cannot afford to ignore the revelation Friday, that two pension staffers are now officially confirmed as targets, and the pension board voted to cover their defense costs. Aguirre called on Mayor Sanders to replace the whole board.

Aguirre: "I would like to see the mayor our new mayor, the trustworthy mayor who is doing an excellent job of carrying out basic reform within the city, to appoint a board that he can certify are truly independent."

The city council previously failed to agree to fire the pension board president. The mayor said he can't understand why the board would continue to keep staff who've pled the 5th on the payroll. His office will consider the issue before taking action. It's too late to add the matter to this week's special council meeting Tuesday.
