Anti-illegal immigrant groups plan to protest Saturday at sites where day laborers gather in San Diego and Long Beach and are planning more demonstration's in San Diego's North County later this month. Meanwhile, workers' advocates have launched a massive education campaign for day laborers and are confident they'll stand their ground. KPBS reporter Amy Isackson has details.

The founder of the anti-illegal immigrant group USA Border Watch, Susy Barstow, expects hundreds will gather at protests in El Cajon, Long Beach and across the country in what she's says is a national day of protest.

Barstow: "We'll be holding up the American flag, talking about that its illegal to hire someone who's here illegally and trying to bring an awareness to the rest of the American people of the cost of this."

But Claudia Smith, with California Rural Legal Assistance, says its way off the mark to assume all day laborers are undocumented.

Smith: "Many are permanent residents and some are even U.S. citizens. And we have been handing out cards letting workers know they have a right under law to offer their services from the curbside."

Smith says they'll dispatch legal observers if workers report harassment.
