Violent attacks on Border Patrol Agents increased by 100 percent last year. Democratic Senator Dianne Feinstein says it's time to examine the problem of violence along California's and other state's southern borders. Capital Hill Reporter Jill Morrison has more.
Senator Feinstein says smugglers are becoming more sophisticated in their efforts to get drugs, goods and humans across the southern border.
Violence against law enforcement agents and local residents is on the rise and so too is illegal immigration of aliens other than Mexicans. Many from countries of special National Security interest.
Feinstein also introduced legislation to criminalize the construction or financing of border tunnels used for smuggling. The legislation was inspired by a January discovery of a tunnel eight football fields long between San Diego and Tijuana-and that no Federal law existed making it a crime.
