Six candidates have qualified to challenge four incumbents for seats on the San Diego city council. However none of them has attracted significant funding to back their ambitions so far. KPBS reporter Alison St John has more.

Half the seats on San Diego's city council are up for reelection in June, but with only a couple of months to go till the primary, the challengers have not yet picked up much financial support.

Kennan Keader who is challenging newly elected councilman Kevin Faulconer in district 2 has $500 in his war chest, 300 of them loaned to himself.

In District 4, councilman Tony Young's opponent Bruce Williams has exactly zero on his campaign contribution declaration so far.

Councilwoman Donna Frye is challenged by community volunteer and homemaker Judy Riddle. So far Riddle has loaned herself just $200 and established a website.

Incumbent Ben Hueso in District 8 has 2 challengers .. Remy Bermudez who's raised $600 and Tim Gomez $350.

Compare this with several thousand dollars already amassed by the incumbents and its clear that the challengers will have to attract significant financial support soon to stand a chance in June. Alison St John, KPBS news.
