A group of UC scientists is raising money to fight malaria in Africa. The researchers have lobbied California's congressional representatives for money to fund the trip. Sacrament reporter, Ellen Ciurczak has more.

Lanzal: "Somewhere between two and three million people die each year in Africa, mainly children under five."

Malaria is transmitted by mosquitos to humans. Lanzowl says California has one of the finest mosquito control programs in the nation, and thus has the technology to wipe out much of the mosquito population in Africa.
