The second public workshop on the proposed Navy Broadway Complex
is Saturday.
Public comment is divided over whether the park on the site should highlight the Navy's presence or reflect broader civic themes. KPBS reporter Alison St John has more.
The Navy Broadway complex, now called the "Pacific Gateway" project, is highly controversial, since it's a key waterfront site downtown.
The Center City Development Corporation says public input is limited to comments on the open space, which includes a 2 acre park.
Eli Sanchez of CCDC says the architect may design the park to tie in with the rest of the Embarcadero plan.
Sanchez: "However if the public says "Oh No we really like the Navy theme," maybe the whole thing becomes a navy theme."
The architect, Carrier Johnson, suggests "navyesque" themes, and including a maritime museum, to tie in with the new navy offices on the site.
Critics say the Navy should not dominate what may become the city's most visible civic space. Alison St John, KPBS news.
