On June 6th, East County voters will decide whether property owners should pay slightly higher taxes to support improvements at Sharp Grossmont Hospital. KPBS Reporter Kenny Goldberg has the story on Proposition G, a $247-million bond measure.

Supporters say Prop G would increase patient capacity and provide some much needed upgrades at Grossmont Hospital.

The facility opened a new emergency room and intensive care unit in 2004. That was financed by donors and hospital operations.

But Grossmont spokeswoman Sandy Pugliese says further improvements require taxpayer support.

Pugliese: $247-million is a little bit more than we could borrow at this point in time. As with anyone who's going through a borrowing procedure, you have to have a cash reserve of a certain level, and we do not have that.

Prop G would add about $41 dollars to the average homeowner's annual property tax bill. There is no organized opposition to the measure. Kenny Goldberg, KPBS News.
