State workers in California could be one step closer to walking off the job. KPBS
Reporter Jane Morton says the union, representing 87,000 workers is expected to authorize a strike.
Union member advocate Julie Macher Ashley says workers have been without a contract for about a year and what the state is offering is an insult to employees. The Governor's contract calls for employee's to pay more into health insurance and a three percent pay raise effective July 1st with no retroactive pay.
Ashley: "We've already gone a year without a raise and their not offering to make this three percent retro.
Macher Ashley says Thursday will be a pivotal day because the State budget will be submitted.
Ashley: "By Thursday of this week the final budget would have to be proposed and the dollar amount that would be allocated to the union would have to be in that budget."
Macher Ashley says if the money isn't there the state governments largest union could call for a strike. Jane Morton KPBS News.
