An economist forecasts that Southern California's economy will turn in a solid
performance this year. The mid-year economic report also shows positive trends for San Diego County. KPBS Reporter Ed Joyce with details.

Jack Kyser is the chief economist with the Los Angeles County Economic Development Corporation. He says San Diego County's economy will continue to shine this year, despite a cooling housing market.

Kyser: But once you get past housing, and yes, there is a slowdown, what you are seeing is a lot of very, very positive trends in key industries like commercial aerospace, like business and professional management services, international trade, technology and tourism and travel.

Even though San Diego home prices have leveled off recently, Kyser expects the demand for homes to remain steady. He says a growing population, reasonable mortgage rates and a stable economy will continue fueling a strong housing market. Ed Joyce, KPBS News.
