Travelers should expect delays and stepped-up security at San Diego's Lindbergh Field this morning. This comes on news that Britain foiled a plot to blow up U.S.-bound airliners. KPBS radio's Andrew Phelps is at Lindbergh Field.
Andrew Phelps: "The lines and the delays here are a lot more substantial than they normally are in the morning at Lindbergh Field. I'm at a point toward the back of the line where the delay is about an hour and 15 minutes. They have security people going around talking to people asking if they have liquids, telling them they better get ready to check them. What's interesting is, it's not just no liquids, but anything that might be confused as a liquid. A woman said she wasn't allowed to bring chapstick in, which she was disappointed about. Another woman was opening her bag for a security person and saying, 'What am I allowed to bring on, what am I not allowed to bring on?' There was a bar of soap in the bag, and the security person said, 'I'm going to have to check on that. I don't know if you can bring that bar of soap in or not.' So there's definitely a little bit of confusion, and a lot of caution and a lot of waiting."
Andrew says no flights have been canceled so far. Homeland Security is banning all liquids from flights except things like baby formula, which will be checked.
