By 2010, SDG&E will have to meet a state-mandated goal of having 20 percent of electricity generated by renewable sources. SDG&E says that a new transmission line from Imperial County across Anza-Borrego Desert through rural areas of North San Diego County may be the answer. The State Parks Department is opposing the project. The Federal Energy Department may designate a national corridor in San Diego County (among other locations) which would help SDG&E’s efforts to build the powerlink.
