San Diego County supervisors have told staff to draw up an ordinance to ban smoking in county parks and open spaces. The county’s proposed ordinance would be the next in a long list of local laws that ban smoking in parks and on beaches.
If you’re middle aged, you’re old enough to remember going to parties and restaurants where you just expected the air to be filled with cigarette smoke.
If you’re in your thirties you probably remember going to bars in California where people always lit up. Will today’s youngsters have no memory of people smoking anywhere in public? If the expansion of no-smoking zones continues apace, you can imagine smoking being banned everywhere, indoors and outdoors.
So far, several cities in the San Diego region, including San Diego itself, have banned smoking from parks and beaches. Now the county is getting into the act. Last week, county supervisors ordered staff to draw up an ordinance to ban smoking from county parks and open spaces.
