City and County Collaborate on Charger Stadium Issue

The City of San Diego and San Diego County agreed to work together to negotiate a possible stadium deal with the San Diego Chargers. The agreement came in the form of votes by both the City Council and the County board of supervisors.

The Chargers say they need a new stadium to remain financially viable and competitive in the National Football League. The commitment by the city and the county to work together could lead to the creation of a joint powers authority, with land use and bonding powers. But that still seems a long way off. In fact, without an agreed-upon stadium site and no commitment of public money, one wonders what the city-county deal would lead to.
