San Diego a Hub for Human Trafficking

Reporter Rebecca Tolin talks with her guests about the tragedy of human trafficking and what’s being done to stop it.

Originally aired Sept. 18, 2006

The word slavery likely conjures up images of black workers in the pre-Civil War south.  But modern day slavery is very much alive.  There are an estimated 27 million slaves in the world today. That’s more than the population of Canada.  The United States – with a robust supply of wealthy customers – is a prime destination.  California sees more human trafficking than any other state, and San Diego is in fact an international hub for sold girls, women, boys and men. They are forced into work and sex without compensation or freedom. Reporter Rebecca Tolin talks with her guests about the tragedy of human trafficking and what’s being done to stop it.
