San Diego County is looking for input on how to improve the region’s health care safety net. County officials will hold five forums this week to get the public’s response to a recently completed study. KPBS Reporter Kenny Goldberg has more.
The 254-page study projects some gaps in the region’s health care safety net, especially in South and East County. And it offers some suggestions on how to beef up the system.
This week’s forums will offer the public the chance to weigh in. Rene Santiago is deputy director of the County’s Health and Human Services Agency.
Santiago: The long term viability of the safety net depends on many people. It really involves all of us really looking at this study very hard, looking at the recommendations, and then really defining as a community what should be our highest priorities.”
The study says the county should explore ways to get more healthcare funding. The report also says the county needs to improve access to specialty care. Kenny Goldberg, KPBS News.
