Tom Fudge : On the national scene, Democrats threw a big party as they took the House and won a majority of governorships. Control of the Senate is still a question mark as they count the remaining ballots in Montana and Virginia.
Statewide, yesterday was the final chapter in the successful remaking of Arnold Schwarzenegger. His rebounding popularity lead him to a landslide victory over Democrat Phil Angelides. And Californians approved ten of billions of dollars in bonding for everything from highways to flood control.
Locally, voters grounded Prop A, which would have called for a commercial airport at what’s now Miramar Air Station. Voters approved a slew of pricy school bonds and passed Jerry Sanders' government reform measures. And in Chula Vista, they threw out an incumbent mayor in favor of school board member Cheryl Cox.
