Navy officials today upped the estimated amount of sewage that was unintentionally discharged into San Diego Bay over the past two years due to an improperly connected pipe at Naval Base San Diego.

Navy Region Southwest officials say about 14 million gallons of sewage went into the bay over a two-year period. Tha’s up from the earlier estimate of just over 10 million gallons when the military reported the problem on Friday.

Navy officials say a sewage pipe was improperly connected to a storm drain that empties into the bay during construction of the12-story Palmer Hall Barracks in 2004.
