Tom Fudge : More then 30 years ago, a former White House counsel named John Dean was a key figure in the most famous American political scandal of recent times. Dean’s testimony before Congress helped to prove that an American President was at the center of a scheme to cover up the Watergate Scandal. That, of course, eventually led to Richard Nixon’s resignation.
Today, John Dean is still involved in politics as a speaker and a writer. And ten years ago, he spoke with Barry Goldwater about writing a book about modern conservatism. Since then, Barry Goldwater has died, but Dean pursued the project. And the result is a book that argues modern conservatism has fallen prey to authoritarian tendencies and personalities.
John Dean will hold a lecture and book signing for his latest book, Conservatives Without Conscience, Monday 7:00 p.m. at the Joan B. Kroc Institute for Peace and Justice, University of San Diego, 5998 Alcala Park, San Diego, 92110. For more information, call (619) 459-3247.
