Tom Fudge: Airport security has been a very high priority since 9-11. And the man who’s responsible for security at Lindbergh Field is Michael Aguilar. Aguilar is a retired Marine Corps General. And he is the federal security director for the TSA, the Transportation Security Administration in San Diego. Earlier this month, he was named Security Director of the Year for the Western Region by the TSA.
Much of Aguilar’s energy is focused on ensuring safety at the airport. But his bigger job involves assessing threats to transportation, generally, and bolstering homeland security in the region. He joins me now in studio to talk about his job, and about counter-terrorism more than five years after 9-11.
