ACLU Says Immigrant Detainees Treated Unfairly in Local Detention Center
Tom Fudge: Last week, the ACLU sued the federal government for alleged overcrowding at an Otay Mesa detention facility. The facility holds many people who are picked up on immigration violations. Over the weekend, authorities moved more than 230 people out of the detention center.
The suit by the ACLU accused the government of violating the rights of the prisoners. And one of the people moved out of Otay Mesa was the lead plaintiff in the case. So far, the feds are calling the movement of the prisoners routine, and not a response to the lawsuit.
