Officials at Lake Tahoe ski resorts are getting out the snow groomers, opening up additional lifts, and happily bracing for skiers from around California, as the first significant snowstorm of the season heads their way. From Sacramento, Ellen Ciurczak reports.
The first flakes had already begun falling Wednesday afternoon at Squaw Valley, Heavenly and North Star resorts in Lake Tahoe. Russ Pecoraro with Heavenly is looking forward to a lot more:
Pecoraro: We are looking at about four feet of snow between now and when the storm is forecast to blow out of here on Tuesday.
Resorts had been using machines to make snow for months now, but officials say skiers had been staying away. They expect the real stuff to bring out the crowds. Forecasters say a storm front moving across the Pacific Ocean will bring snow to the Sierra Nevada over the next week.
