Presidential hopeful Rudy Giuliani is in San Diego today. He stopped at a local fish market in between fund raisers. KPBS Radio's Andrew Phelps was there.
Point Loma Seafoods is always crowded at lunchtime. Today it was packed like a sardine can after a New York celebrity arrived. Former Mayor Rudy Giuliani sampled the red Manhattan chowder with patrons. Just outside the fray, longtime San Diegan Dena Metz is starry-eyed. She says what most of the supporters here say: the man is more important than his politics.
Metz : I'm tired of politics. I like a person for what I think they are capable of doing or what they had said they're going to do. You know -- you know politics.
Giuliani was vague about his politics. He spoke briefly about national security and "winning hearts and minds" in the war on terrorism. He also says he'll carry on President Bush's efforts on immigration and health care reform. For KPBS, I'm Andrew Phelps.
