Former U.S. Attorney Carol Lam appears on Capitol Hill today, to answer questions about her dismissal, along with other federal prosecutors.
Lawmakers want to know more about why Lam and several other U.S Attorneys were asked to step down by their bosses at the Department of Justice.
Attorney General Alberto Gonzales declined to address the issue during a visit to San Diego last week. Gonzales took time to meet with career prosecutors in the U.S. Attorney's office.
Gonzales: As far as I'm concerned, the San Diego employees are on the front lines dealing with border issues, dealing with drugs, dealing with violent crime. So I wanted to come by and speak with them.
The Justice Department has said Lam and several other prosecutors were fired for "performance-related" reasons. Lawmakers want to know if politics also may have played a role.
