California School Superintendent Jack O'Connell says he wants private businesses to play a greater role in educating public high school students. KPBS reporter Ana Tintocalis has more.
O'Connell says business partnerships are good for public high schools. In order to get that message across, he's been traveling up and down the state speaking with school administrators. He's also proposing a new plan that would boost the funding for career academies. A career academy is a school within a high school. Businesses provide money and resources to support job training programs. O'Connell says businesses have a place on campus.
O'Connell : We want to encourage more businesses to come and work and tell us what skills you really need. We need labor to continue to tell us what skills need to be met in order for our economy to grow and prosper.
O'Connell downplays concerns businesses may influence the educational agenda at some schools. Ana Tintocalis, KPBS News.
