San Diego fire officials say a fire scorched 25 palm trees in Mission Bay early this morning. The blaze, reported shortly after 1 this morning, burned a cluster of trees off of southbound I-5 at Sea World Drive.
Investigators say at least a dozen palm trees in the same area were damaged in a similar fashion in several instances last month.
Fire Rescue spokesman Maurice Luque says those blazes may have been an act of arson.
Luque : We're looking at all possibilities. We haven't ruled accidental out, we haven't ruled arson in. We have a suspicion that these are intentionally set, but we don't have any direct evidence.
