As lawmakers wrestle over what to cut and what to keep in the tight state budget, they're getting some good news about their own wallets. They, along with the governor and other state officials, are getting a raise. Marianne Russ reports from Sacramento.
The state's Citizens Compensation Commission voted to give legislators and other elected officials a 2.75 percent pay hike.
Governor Schwarzenegger's new salary will be just over $212,000 -- though the multi-millionaire doesn't take the money. Lawmakers will be paid about $116,000 per year.
The Attorney General and the Superintendent of Public Instruction will get a bigger raise -- they'll get a 5 percent hike, which will bring their salaries to more than $184,000.
All of the increases will take effect December 3. This marks the third year in a row elected officials have received a raise. The independent commission was formed in 1990 by voters.
