Weather Service Says Wildfire Conditions Even Worse This Week

The National Weather Service says there's a high risk of wildfire in Southern California on Wednesday. They've issued a Red Flag Warning for the mountains and forests, meaning humidity has dropped below 10 percent in those areas.

Forecaster Stan Waskowski of the Weather Service says the high heat and low humidity create prime conditions for wildfires.

Waskowski : This time of year Southern California gets pretty warm, especially in the inland areas, and it stays very dry because we've had no rain now for going on three or four months. And so therefore the vegetation has a tendency to dry out there up there in the mountains.

The fire danger is highest above areas moistened by the marine layer.

The Red Flag Warning is set to expire at 9 p.m. Thursday night.
