More than 100 people held a rally in downtown San Diego on Monday, demanding that state lawmakers make healthcare affordable for everyone. It was the first stop on a statewide tour called the "Road to Reform." KPBS reporter Kenny Goldberg has more.
The Road to Reform tour is sponsored by a coalition of labor unions and consumer advocates. The coalition wants everyone to have access to affordable healthcare coverage, regardless of preexisting conditions. It also wants all employers to contribute their fair share.
At the San Diego event, Art Polaski of the California Labor Federation urged people to speak up.
Polaski : Are you ready to take that message to Sacramento? Are you ready to raise Hell about the healthcare that we need? Are you ready to demand healthcare for everybody?
Governor Schwarzenegger and Democratic leaders have proposed their own healthcare reform plans. The parties hope they can strike a deal later this summer.
