As summer comes to a close, why not make plans for a quick, last-minute getaway? We speak to an author who shares some of her favorite Southern California destinations that you may not know about.

Tom Fudge: Summer is winding down, so many now know it is not the best time to talk about travel destinations. But if you don't have children, or you're waiting for the weather to cool down a bit, maybe now is the time to get out of town. Of course, if your destination is another spot in Southern California, perhaps even San Diego County, you wouldn't have far to go. Maybe a day trip would be in order.
