Former Aviation Official Discusses the Future of Lindbergh Field
Tom Fudge: A couple of years ago, San Diegans voters resoundingly rejected the idea of creating a commercial airport at Miramar Air Station. In effect, that means they voted to leave the county's primary airport right where it is, at Lindbergh Field . Now, airport officials are faced with the question of how Lindbergh can be the airport of the future. This comes after many years of telling us that it would be inadequate given its constrained acreage and single runway.
But the voters have spoken. So the San Diego County Regional Airport Authority has proposed a construction plan that would, at least, add ten gates to the second terminal.
