Tri-City Medical Center in Oceanside has decided not to place a $780 million bond on the June ballot. Tri-City's board says it wants to do more polling before deciding when to put the bond up for a vote. KPBS reporter Kenny Goldberg has more.
Tri-City Hospital opened in 1961. It serves the communities of Carlsbad, Vista, and Oceanside. Officials say the facility is long overdue for a facelift. It also needs to be brought up to current earthquake standards.
North County voters were given two chances to approve a Tri-City Hospital bond in 2006. They rejected the first measure by 400 votes. They defeated the second by 4,000 votes. Two-thirds approval is needed.
The district has hired a consulting firm to help pass the bond on the next attempt. The firm advised against trying in the June Primary, saying it needed to learn more about voter opinions.
