Assembly Member Lori Saldana Proposes Bill to Solve HOA Disputes

Tom Fudge: Homeowners associations are taking over. And not everyone is thrilled with the idea. In fact, San Diego assemblywoman Laurie Saldaña is sponsoring legislation that seeks to reform some of the practices, and resolve some of the disputes that have made HOAs hard to live with.

The proposed legislation, called AB 567, would establish a Common Interest Development Bureau to assist homeowners and people who are on the boards of CIDs. Common Interest Development is the expression used to describe housing developments that are governed by home owners associations. There are more than four million of these kinds of housing units in the state of California, making up about a quarter of all our housing stock.

Assembly Member Lori Saldaña will chair a legislative committee hearing on Common Interest Developments (CID) and Home Owner Associations (HOA) today Thurs., March 13, at 6 p.m. at the Port of San Diego Administration Building.
