Those early birds who already know how they want to vote in the June primary election can cast their ballots starting today. KPBS reporter Alison St John has more.
Voting can officially begin 29 days before the election, so even though you may not have got your sample ballot in the mail yet, registrar Deborah Seiler says her office is ready to take your vote.
Seiler: Starting today through election day on June 3, we'll be open every day for early voting.
Seiler says voters can pick up a ballot and fill it in right there, or take it home to think about. Thirty-seven percent of San Diego's 1.3 million registered voters have signed up to vote by mail so far.
Seiler says more will probably sign up once they get their sample ballots. She says anyone who doesn't have a sample ballot yet should get it this week. In February, 45 percent of all the ballots cast in San Diego were mailed in.
Seiler says turn out is typically higher - about 70 percent among people vote by mail voters. On the June ballot are dozens of local, state and national candidate primary elections, and 10 propositions: Two are state-wide eminent domain measures, seven relate to reforms in the cities of San Diego, Chula Vista, Carlsbad , and Encinitas, and one is a school bond in Oceanside.
