Tom Fudge: If you lived on the east coast, and someone offered you more than $200,000 a year to take a job in San Diego, would you do it? Is that a dumb question? Not really. Consider the fact that this job may be the toughest assignment you've ever had. It's a position that puts you in the middle of a very emotional fight over the lives of children. And you'd be accepting this job at time when the state is threatening to cut your budget by tens of millions of dollars a year.
But Terry Grier did accept the job of Superintendent of the San Diego Unified School District. He's actually been on the job since the end of March. Terry Grier came to San Diego after ten years as superintendent of North Carolina's Guilford County schools. His experience as a school administrator is very broad. He's been superintendent of eight districts, including a stint as head of the Sacramento city school district.
He talks about the reasons why he came to San Diego, and what he wants to accomplish.
