McCain Courts Latino Vote at La Raza Conference
Tom Fudge : Yesterday, it was John McCain's turn to address the convention of the National Council on La Raza in San Diego. In part, his was a conventional campaign speech in which he spoke in favor of tax cuts, for instance. But he did eventually get to that he subject he could hardly avoid. Immigration policy.
The day before, Democratic nominee Barack Obama addressed the same group of people. And he accused McCain of backing away from the comprehensive immigration reform plan he twice put before Congress. McCain did this, said Obama, in order to support the more popular plan to secure the border and get tough on illegal immigrants. McCain responded to that.
