Local Governments Looking to Replace Dwindling Beach Sand
Alan Ray : To a degree, beaches are like oceans of sand. They may look fixed and stable, but they're not. Sometimes they grow. Sometimes they recede. Sometimes they disappear.
Imagine San Diego without beaches. The San Diego Association of Governments, or SANDAG, has imagined. And it's created a Shoreline Preservation Working Group to monitor sand on the beaches.
In 2001, there was a huge effort to restock some county beaches with sand... But in 2008, some beaches have less sand than they had then. How can that be?
