The San Miguel Fire District is getting the word out about fire safety this weekend.
Firefighters and volunteers will distribute information packets to about 13-thousand households in East San Diego County. The packets include a DVD with several disaster and evacuation plans. It also shows residents how to keep their houses as fire-proof as possible.
Fire Chief Augie Ghio says the campaign will stretch out over the next several weeks.
Ghio: We will use this as another education tool to help them prepare, to help them understand what their roles and responsibilities are and to help them understand what needs to be done prior to the threat and what needs to be done during the fire to save their lives and evacuate safely.
Ghio says September and October are the most dangerous fire months.
