Alison St. John: It's quite possible that water will be the biggest issue for Southern Californians in the coming year. Water might even swamp the financial crisis as the next great challenge.
Today, City of San Diego residents are invited to a public hearing at city hall about another water rate increase. One of the increases is to cover the increased cost of water, and the other increase is for a so-called "potable reuse demonstration project".
I should add that even if you don't live in the City of San Diego, chances are good that your water rates are going up too because the County Water Authority is raising everyone's rates across the board.
The City Council will hold a public hearing today at 2pm to discuss two proposed water rate increases for San Diego.
Guests
- Jim Barrett, director of Public Utilities for the City of San Diego.
- Bruce Reznik , executive director of San Diego Coastkeeper .
