San Diego Charities Struggle to Feed the Hungry
Tom Fudge : Even when we have tough economic times in the United States, we still have enough to eat. That's what you'd hope and assume.
But while starvation is hard to find in our blessed country, an awful lot of people can't afford all the food they need. As a result, they're buying cheaper food. They're buying less. They're cutting other expenditures to spend money on food. And they're using food banks.
In fact, the San Diego Food Bank is reporting dramatic increases in demand for its services. And it isn't always keeping up pace. This past weekend, the Food Bank and the San Diego Chargers encouraged Charger fans to come to Sunday's game at Qualcom Stadium with food donations.
