San Diego gas prices are down again, falling to the lowest level since 2004. The Utility Consumer's Action Network reports the average price of a gallon of regular is now $1.84. One reason for the price decline is a drop in demand. The state tax board says Californians used less gas in every month this year, when compared to a year ago. The board's Anita Gore says consumption dropped a dramatic eight percent in August.
Gore: We know that price of gasoline is one contributor to a reduction in consumption. We also know that people are becoming more environmentally aware and are purchasing vehicles vehicles that use less gasoline. And have taken to more public transportation and that sort of thing.
Gore says it will be interesting to see if gas consumption rose in the last couple of months as the price dropped. U-Can says a handful of stations in the county are selling regular for less than $1.70 a gallon.
