A couple of local groups are helping nonprofit organizations survive in the economic recession. KPBS reporter Katie Orr has details.
The San Diego Foundation and the United Way of San Diego County have launched an initiative meant to give small nonprofits the tools to get them through tough economic times and emerge stronger. It’s called Survive and Thrive and United Way President Doug Sawyer says it will be tailored to meet specific requirements.
Sawyer: Every agency is different and every agency has needs and every agency has strengths and they’re all different. And we believe along with the San Diego Foundation that we need to offer some support wherever they need the support in order to be successful in this time.
The organizations will be offered advice on how to improve their operations. Health and human service groups will be targeted first followed by arts and environmental nonprofits.
