If you grew up during the '80s like me, you probably tried to beatbox at some point, in between practicing the worm and perfecting your popping and locking skills . You know you tried it. You put your hands over your mouth and tried to catch a beat, bobbing your head as if it was working. I failed miserably at this (shocker), as most people did. It looks like it should be easy, but it's really difficult; a craft that takes practice, experimentation, and a lot of breath control. There were a few among the masses of Doug E. Fresh and Fat Boys fans who had a natural talent for beatboxing and stuck with it. They practiced techniques, gathered on corners with MCs, and battled on stages with nothing but a microphone. One of those unique talents is San Diego's own Beehive. & He didn't have a walkman growing up, so he'd walk home from school composing beats with his mouth. Today he performs on stages all over the city and is finishing up an album. He performed in our studios on Tuesday and made us all gasp in wonder. Check him out in the video below. &
