Alan Ray: We often assume that there's a natural tension between science and religion. And there's certainly enough evidence of conflict between religious leaders and scientists through history and up to the present day. But perhaps it doesn't have to be that way.
That's the message of scientist and doctor Francis Collins, director of the Human Genome Project, and a born-again Christian.
As we continue to mark the 200th anniversary of the birth of Charles Darwin, Collins offers the hypothesis that there can be a mutually beneficial co-existance between scientific and spiritual understanding. Collins is the author of the book: "The Language of God: A Scientist Presents Evidence for Belief." Tom Fudge spoke with Francis Collins last year.
