A water main break left dozens of homes and a primary school in Paradise Hills without working plumbing today.
The ruptured 8-inch-diameter concrete pipe began flooding the 6200 Oriskany Road about 8:30 a.m., according to the San Diego Water Department.
It took crews about 15 minutes to get the overflow under control by shutting down the main, SDWD spokesman Arian Collins said.
Left without water service were nearby Perry Elementary School, which closed for the day due to the problem, and residences on Coral Gum Court, Oriskany Road, Pelican Hill Road, Pine Bluff Lane, Seal Beach Place and Tidepool Place.
"Water wagons" were brought in to serve the affected residents pending restoration of service to the area, which was expected in the early evening, the spokesman said.
City personnel were trying to determine if a traffic accident that sheared off a fire hydrant in the neighborhood about 7:30 a.m. had anything to do with the pipeline failure, according to Collins.
No structural flooding was reported.
