California voters say unhealthy eating is the biggest health risk that children face. A new Field Poll reveals most voters think childhood obesity is a very serious problem.
Previous Field Polls showed voters believed illegal drug use was the number health risk for children.
The latest survey indicates widespread concern for childhood obesity, and overwhelming support for policies to address it.
Voters were asked how easy it is to buy fresh fruits and vegetables in their community, according to Field Poll Director, Mark DiCamillo.
"Sixty-one percent of all California voters say it's very easy to do so, but in low-income areas, just 19 percent say that," said DiCamillo.
The survey finds most voters favor government support to encourage supermarkets to set up shop in poor neighborhoods.
