Michael Jordan Backs Out of B-Ball Game on USS Vinson

Michael Jordan has backed out of his commitment to be honorary team captain for the University of North Carolina Tar Heels when they play the Michigan State Spartans at the Carrier Classic. Jordan told organizers he has an unspecified commitment he can't get out of, according to the Associated Press.

The Carrier Classic will take place on the deck of the USS Carl Vinson on Veterans Day and will be the first NCAA basketball game of the season. It'll also be the first time ever that a college basketball game has been played on an active aircraft carrier - the very aircraft carrier that disposed of Osama bin Laden's body.

The AP reports that James Worthy has agreed to step in for Jordan. The two former NBA stars were teammates at UNC. Interestingly enough, Worthy's Lakers teammate Magic Johnson is the honorary team captain for the Michigan State Spartans.
