The Democratic leader of the California Senate is voicing his concerns over the possibility that there will be competing tax measures on the November ballot. Senate President Pro-Tem Darrell Steinberg said he believes Governor Brown’s tax initiative would provide more help for the state than any other measure. “But the real problem is, that if you have multiple measures on the ballot, you dramatically increase the likelihood that they will all fail. That’s not an acceptable outcome,” said Steinberg.
Governor Brown has expressed similar concerns. His proposal would temporarily raise the tax on sales and high incomes. A so-called “millionaire’s tax” initiative would raise taxes on people making more than a million dollars a year. A third tax measure would raise money for K-through-12 education.
