Padres Ballpark Transformed Into Nine-Hole Golf Course
In a joint effort, the San Diego Padres and Callaway Golf recently turned the baseball stadium into a golf course.

Instead of nine innings of baseball, starting Thursday San Diegans will see nine holes of golf played at Petco Park.

Dubbed “The Links at Petco Park,” the five-day event will see more than 1,600 participants teeing off at different locations throughout the stadium.

Golfers will start at home plate and eventually work their way to the upper decks – taking aim at holes placed in the outfield. The last tee is situated on the roof of the Western Metal Supply Building. Twosomes and foursomes will each have two shots per hole – landing on the green is par and within a ring surrounding the hole is good for a birdie.

Golfers who sink a hole-in-one will get a new Callaway driver, with a shot for a set of clubs on the last hole.

The par three, 1,000-yard course appeals to both golf and baseball enthusiasts, said Dave Neville, senior director of marketing at Callaway Golf.

“I’ve always thought coming to one of these major league stadiums, I would love to step up to home plate – but with a golf club in my hands," Neville said. "I’m pretty sure I can’t hit a home run with an actual baseball, but with a golf club you have the opportunity to do that.”

The sold-out event opened Thursday and runs through Monday.
