The primary election is fast approaching with mail-in voting starting next week and election day on March 3.

It looked for a while as if the contest for San Diego mayor would not have a well-known Republican in the race. But just before the filing deadline, City Councilman Scott Sherman, who represents District 7, decided to run.

Sherman is running against two current or former city council members, Democratic Assemblyman Todd Gloria and Democratic City Councilwoman Barbara Bry, and community activist Tasha Williamson. The top two vote-getters in the March primary will advance to the November general election.
